The goal of this FAQ, is to answer some of the most common questions regarding wedding video production. Please feel free to submit additional questions, if you feel they’d be helpful to others.
Why hire a videographer?
A video conveys sights and sounds in a way still pictures cannot. Please note however that it’s not our intention to take the place of a photographer. We recommend having both, and will assist you in choosing one if desired.
How long is the completed DVD?
This varies, as each wedding is unique. Dependant largely on the length of the ceremony, the edited version will typically be approximately 75 to 90 minutes in length on average. Longer formal ceremonies will result in a longer video, and some approach two hours in length.
What cameras do you use?
We use Sony Digital Video cameras. Quite a bit larger than your pocket camcorder, but a good bit smaller than a typical newsgathering camera. In fact, these same cameras are often used in the field by broadcasters, when larger cameras are impractical. These same cameras are often used to produce motion pictures, such as the recent thriller “Open Water”.
May I choose my own music for the video?
Music during the ceremony and reception is typically the actual music you’ll hear in your video. You may however choose several selection
Does the DVD include a chapter selection menu?
Yes, each DVD has a custom scene selection menu, chapter markers are typically placed for the ceremony, first dance, toasts, cake cutting, and so on.
What is the best time of day for an outdoor ceremony?
If you’ve not yet chosen the time of day for your ceremony, we recommend approximately 60 to 90 minutes before sunset. As the sun is low on the horizon, lighting is ideal for video and photographs. Your guests will also be more comfortable on warmer days.
How are the vows recorded?
We use a Sennheiser broadcast quality wireless microphone system for the recording of the vows. We can also provide wireless handheld for the reception. The latter is often provided by your DJ.
Are VHS copies available?
Yes. These are $25 each. We encourage DVD when possible, as it’s a superior format.
Can I choose photo
Absolutely. You may provide photographs in either digital or print form. These photos will also be used for the menus and disc label. The alternative is to use still frames from your video.
How long before I receive the completed DVDs?
On average, allow at least six weeks after the date of your wedding. This varies somewhat, depending on the time of year, and current workload.
Will you be obtrusive with blinding bright lights?
Unlike some, we use no additional lighting during the ceremony. We use professional broadcast grade cameras, and require additional lighting only in dark environments. In these cases, the lighting has a softening screen applied, that functions much like a lampshade. The light is not harsh, and may easily be viewed directly.
As your wedding day will be one of the most important days in your life, we go to great lengths to remain at a respectful distance, and make every effort to minimize our presence.
What about custom titles?
If you provide the wedding party names and roles, these will be incorporated into an end title sequence much as you see in a feature film. You may also include a prayer, poem, or a message to your friends and family as part of your custom titles.
